Description
A worthy successor to the legacy of the Royal Oak, the Offshore Chronograph is an experience that is hard to put into words – and that’s a good thing. Much like its predecessor, the model represents an intense yearning for the future, but it nevertheless looks to the past, to the rich history it is part of, with the highest respect.
In our humble opinion, the Royal Oak is one of the watches that best encapsulate the magical exuberance of horology, all the while rendering it easy to appreciate even by those whose knowledge of watches is limited to the Apple Watch. The 42 mm case and integrated bracelet, for example, are so flawlessly finished that even the completely untrained eye can recognize how special their fine hairlines and polished beveled edges are. It’s also worth noting that the octagonal bezel which launched the RO into stardom has become so archetypal at this point that it is impossible to mistake for another.
Best of all, however, is the dial – not only does it incorporate the mesmerizing Mega Tappeserie pattern – yet another Royal Oak staple – but it follows the most beloved color scheme in watchmaking history: the affectionately-nicknamed Panda dial! The latter is adorned with sleek black hands and raised Arabic numerals, which contrast both their pristine backdrop and the lustrous steel that surrounds them. Last but not least, the red accents tie all of the above together splendidly, emphasizing the piece’s assertive aura.
